Back in the saddle

After exactly 2 weeks I got back in the saddle. My hand is healing up just fine, give it another week and I'm back to normal. For the time being, I still have to be careful of how I grip the handle bar.

Life is looking good again!

Paleojourney - A Mac Photo Booth Diary - Week 5 - Success

You don't really see it in my face, but this morning brought some very nice surprises.
I don't need to buy new trousers this week!!
I thought I had to, because one jeans and slacks aren't enough, when you go to work.
However, this morning I thought: "Well, your current jeans are sitting relatively loose and you know you are down to around 60kg, so let's try some of my old trousers."(I haven't weighed myself in a week!)
And lo' and behold they fit, all of them!!

The one in the following picture is a jeans I bought before I gained so much weight due to taking the pill in 2003! When I bought this jeans I was literally 5 kg lighter and now it fits!!! That's the reason for my expression.

So, I might not have lost so many pounds, but obviously my body changes for the better. And let's not forget: muscles weigh more than fat. So I'm quite excited and am more than happy to stick with the Paleo lifestyle. When I move in to weeks it will be a bit tricky to keep it up for two weeks, since I'm not sure where I will stay for the first two weeks and I have to find the right kind of grocery stores, but I'll prepare and stick with Paleo, because the effort obviously pays off. Wohoo.

Other things: I did two sprints yesterday, just for the fun of it. I also found that it's not worth cheating with any backed goods, even if it's just a bite. Just chocolate is fine, but grains are pure poison to me!

Happy Sunday everyone!!

Friiiiiiiidddaaaaayyyyyyyyy!!!!

Wohooo. Only a few more hours and you can relax, so keep up your spirits. Only 24 days for me and I start out at my new company. I'm feeling great today. Isn't it wonderful, only one day of not talking to my mom lifts my spirits to this height. Good thing I'm not afraid of heights. Hihi.
Additionally the weather is pretty good, we have something that you could call sunshine and to fight the cold I have my amazing winter coat. So all is well.

Enjoy your Fridays.

Paleojourney - A Mac Photo Booth Diary - Week 3

I know, I'm one day late. I simply forgot it yesterday, since I was half asleep the whole day. Today I'm fine though. One more week and the 1. Paleo month is over, I hope that I reach my weight goal, but I don't think there'll be a problem.

Have a magical week everyone.

What I like about Starbucks

That I can trink lovely beverages and eat THE chocolate cake while working undisturbed in a great, comforting atmosphere with people around me that like the same things that I like, for example: Apple (MacBook Pros), stylish clothes and reading, learning, chatting with friends or just enjoying to be in company of other people while doing your own things.

Pics from my trainride to Villingen in the Black Forest on Tuesday. Took those pics between Mannheim and Karlsruhe.

Starbucks really succeeded in creating a place where you feel comfortable to spend time working or hanging out. Wished they had longer opening hours in the evening 8:30 PM or 9 o'clock is just toooooooo early to close shop.

I'm so crazy about this place, I'd love to buy one of those small bistro tables. Either the one with the writing or the one with the chess board. And don't get me started on the pictures. Sigh. You know what? I would love to have their interior design team to come to my kitchen and turn it into one with Starbucks flair. I'm really crazy about that company. And no, I didn't get payed to write this article.

What is your favourite "third place"?

Paleojourney - A Mac Photo Booth Diary - Week 1

Hi there. Yesterday my nose was really sporty, it ran a 50 mile race. Today it is luckily sore and therefore just stuck. ;-) Anyway, due to the sickness I also gained some weight back. The reason are those darned cough drops, they send my insulinlevels on a rollercoaster ride, which is something that I try get out of my system with the paleo eating. Insulin spikes are the culprit for diabetes 2, since I really can do without diabetes I eat Paleo, it is one of the many reasons.
Luckily my throat is almost back to normal, so I don't need those cough sweets anymore and my goal for this next week is to keep my insulinlevels on a relatively steady low.

Today it is weekplanning, cleaning my flat and some much needed pampering myself. Oh and lunch at my parents: veal. Yumm.

Remember to take part in my Giveaway, Ladies!

My lowest in 5 years

Just a few minutes ago I weighed myself and I'm amazed at the nice number that showed up.

61.1 kg

That is my lowest in about 5 years and a whole pound since yesterday! Okay, I know, it's probably mostly water that my body let go due to the fact that I just finished my cycle. Nevertheless, I haven't seen such a low number in years! What I think is funny, is that I always seem to get rid of more weight on days that I don't move a lot. Yesterday did nothing but surfing the net, preparing and eating gorgeous food and resting. Mmmh, maybe my cortisol was too high for getting rid of the fat on the other days? Well, I'll probably never know, so I go with the flow.

Yesterdays dinner consisted of this:

Plus 3 clementines and 1 apple

Today, I will move a bit more, I need to buy groceries and get some stuff to the post and friends. So there will be a lot of walking and listening to Robb Wolfs podcast. I don't know why, but these days I really enjoy trudging through the snow and listening to this podcast, before that I "never" listened to podcasts. I mean, I just learned of a way to get around another surgery, thanks to Robb and Mark, which is so AWESOME I can't even describe how lucky I feel to be abled to have listened to this podcast and get the solution for one of my health issues for free. Who would've thought, that it's so ridiculously easy as changing my diet?!

Okay, enough of this for today, I need to get going. Literally.

Food pictures

Thank you for your concern. However I think I'm having to clear something up. I'm not eating less!! I just eat different. I eat a lot more proteins (fish, fowl, meat, eggs) and good fats (olive oil, coconut oil, creme fraiche is at the moment my favourite) and more fruits and veggies. I'm simply avoiding food that has a high insulin response. Other than that I don't have any restrictions such as the amount. I eat as much as I like and until I'm sated.

And besides, we all know that I'm lacking self discipline, I couldn't starve myself and I don't want to. Besides food is fun, why would I cut out the fun.

Since I have gone so long without pictures on this blog, here is some food porn of the last few days. And yes today and yesterday I was also 100% primal. (Okay, maybe somewhere I have some discipline stored, for occasions like this. *snicker* I also didn't buy the Snowwhitecake, which is an absolute favourite tastewise, but it leads me to feeling bloated and even asthma. Don't need that, thanks. )

Time for the food porn:

Grilled salmon with tomatoes and kiwis swimming in olive oil

selfmade tomato sauce with kiwis and creme fraiche

Dinner korean style, 2 broiled eggs, turkey hen, wakame and the tomato sauce

Todays korean style dinner, fish mix, 1 broiled egg, some grilled stripes of turkey hen, 1 apple, 2 spoons creme fraiche, wakame (not in picture because it hadn't finished soaking)

See? I'm not eating less, I'm just eating better. *grin*

Taste Bud Adventures - Salmon with tomatos and golden kiwis

After two days of eating too much bad food (christmas market and bad mood are the culprits), I'm finally back on the track. This is a quick recipe I just invented for todays lunch and it's delicious, healthy and inexpensive.

Ingredients:
1 piece of filet of salmon (150 to 250g)
a hand full of cherry tomatoes
1 golden kiwi
1 tablespoon of olive oil for the casserole

Method:
1. oil the casserole
2. put the thawed / fresh salmon in the casserole
3. dice the tomatoes and skinned kiwi, put them on the salmon
4. bake the salmon in an oven with 150°C for 15 to 20 minutes.

Enjoy.

The golden fall

We have been pretty lucky with this fall. Not to cold, sunshine galore, countless golden trees and golden light almost all day long. I took those pictures yesterday at our sunday bike tour. It was amazing and probably our last one this year, since Chris is moving to another town.

Have a great new week everyone and thank you for your support. The last week has been a bit off.

Itadakimasu

My current obsession is Japan. I love their movies and dramas and food. So when I came back home for lunch (after the dentist and looking for lamps for my flat) and had no particular idea for what to eat, I prepared udon.

Udon are thick wheat noodles that are mostly served in a broth with some slices of fresh spring onions and maybe an egg for the proteines. There is a whole movie on udon.

Well, so I made it pretty simple. I took instant miso soup for the broth (I know, I know, but I can't use real miso until I move out, same goes for garlic. Just one more month and I'll have my own kitchen! Yeah.). Cooked the udon noodles for 10 minutes and while they were boiling I soaked some wakame, cut a quarter of a bell pepper into cubes and some smoked (almond-sesam) tofu too.
I grabbed a "big" bowl, put the drained(?) udon in, added the broth and the other ingredients. This is what I got:

Itadakimasu!

Delicious, but not paleo or primal. However I have to use up my asian noodles, before I move out. By the way "Itadakimasu" is also the name of an japanese cookbook, that I just got from the library. So stay tuned for some delicious, japanese cooking posts.

Since my lunch wasn't paleo, my dinner certainly is: 2 red chief apples (as you know my favourites) and hazelnut spread (from the whole food store, only hazelnuts, nothing else). Just slice the apples and put some spread on it. Yummy. Not a real meal you say? Wrong, hazelnut spread contains a lot of oil (good oil, Ladies, so enjoy) and some pretty awesome minerals and proteins. So, in the end you'll have a big grin on your face and feel satisfied (maybe Mick Jagger should try it?!). I certainly have a huge grin on my face now.

Tell me why I don't like, NOOO, HATE Tuesdays

Seriously Tuesdays plain suck. I always stand beside me on Tuesdays. Yesterday again.

Rotten mood, no motivation whatsoever and eating lots of crap.

To look on the bright side of things, I definitely know now that when I get out and about, I start to feel better immediately. Unfortunately Elliott, my fat and lazy dragon, is pretty good at keeping me in and in my old habits. Well, Elliott my dear, your fat and lazy days are running out, time to get you fat a** moving.

However I had the energy to send in some pictures in the Nikon Photo Contest International 2010/2011. But I didn't and still don't feel excited about it. Which is weird. Well, the winners will be anounced at the end of June next year, so there is a lot of time till then.

Since AZ asked for some woodwork pics, here they are (though it's a picture board not my bed):

I also realized yesterday, again, that I still think of caring for myself and my body to be work! And not that I 'm doing something that makes me feel really good in my skin and about me. This is still some bit of rebellion against my mom. It's really hard to get this out of my system. In my head I know that it comes down to a high level of selfsabotage, but to change it is a long and hard process. Well, as my friend Susie said on Monday, it's amazing that I really realize where my problems lie and that I can adress them. Nevertheless, it will take some time to get this rebellion against me, myself and I out of my system and Elliott. But I will succeed. (In the end nothing disturbs my mom more as when I actually do something, she thought I couldn't. Hehe.)

perfect job?

Hi,

today was a really good day for me.

I looked for job offers and I found one that sounds perfect to me (cool project, lots of travel), I already asked for the contact and will write the application first thing tomorrow morning.

The next good thing, I finally got some songs from "Monkey Majik", which is a japanese music group. Their music is really fantastic, unfortunately japanese music is really hard to get in Germany. Don't know why, american music is everywhere, but japanese...it's really annoying. No wonder that the record companies have problems, they don't do their job, which is to provide the music I like, when and how I like it. They deserve it to suffer.

(Yeah, I took this pic.)

Todays food diary is really crazy.
Breakfast: chocolate protein shake, a handful of mangetouts, black tea
Snack/Lunch: 7 sugar apricots (small sweet apricots, not apricots coated in sugar!)
Dinner: chocolate protein shake

This happened by accident, I lost track of time and suddenly it was evening and I still wasn't hungry, so to give my body some good stuff I drank another protein shake.

Hope your Monday was equally nice.

Ramen at the UMAII

Miso-Ramen with fresh Salmon (The best fish I ever ate! Because it's really soft and juicy, since the uncooked salmon slivers are just put into the hot broth and then refine while served and eating. *Very Happy Sigh*)

Tamago-Ramen (I like the Tamago = omelet, but the broth of this Ramen isn't exactly my cup of tea. ;-)

UMAII is a japanese Ramen Bar in Leipzig. They are fantastic. I love to eat there. Chris loves it too.
I went there with two other friends (K & A) on Friday and they didn't like it. The interior is too stylish (read cold) for them and the food too japanese (Algae is obviously a "no go" for them. Well, if I should move to Japan and they come to visit, this could be a problem for them, I on the other hand would be perfectly fine.), K ate Thyme-potatoes at another bar right afterwards and then felt stuffed, poor girl. No wonder if you ask me. After that we went dancing, it was real fun and felt fantastic, but I really need to improve the strength of my thighs. Ouch.

I like the Japanese (Okinawan) culture of Hara Hachi Bu = Eat only until you are 80% full, though I'm still struggling to get it ingrained, but I'm getting better day by day. At UMAII this isn't a problem however, since the portions are perfect for this 80% approach. Japan watch out here I come! ;-D (I've decided to learn Japanese. Now I just have to find a language course, for February 2011.)

I have a new favourite supplement: L-Carnitin.

It's not only delicious, but also very good for my muscles and body as a whole. So, we'll see how it works out. (I bought this myself and it's my own opinion, the producer didn't pay me or send me this. But I wouldn't say no, if I got a package for free. ;-)

Okay, now I'll clean my room and then go for my Sunday training ride. Chris isn't in town this weekend, so I have to ride alone. (Well, Elliott will keep me company. Wonder what his excuses will be this time.)

Tomorrow I will view some apartments, wish me luck that they are what I'm looking for and can move into my own flat soon. This also means I have to cut my triathlon budget to half since I need the money for flat stuff, like a bed, kitchen stuff and so on. Anyway, moving out is hugely important for my mental health, being a 32 year old teenager isn't fun anymore.

Have a great new week.

KEEP MOVING FORWARD!
